Mississauga Arts Council: The MARTYS
Come see DJ Misty performing at The Martys!
Who will have their MARTYS moment this year? Join us as we celebrate the best and brightest talent in Mississauga! The MARTY Awards are May 7!
This year’s event features a cocktail hour with an extravagant street fair scene featuring local artists across all the disciplines of art, delicious dinner, exciting entertainment and some very special guests.
This year’s host is Rogers Television Talk Show personality Randy Persaud! Join us and meet the best and brightest talent Mississauga has to offer. Be interviewed like a star on the Red Carpet during the Cocktail Reception.
The red carpet will feature performances from nominees; The New Electric, DanceShala, and Sarah Smith. Our pre-party is hosted by Arlene Paculan, singer-songwirter and 2014 MARTY winner. Our after party features; Issac Eng, Uniqu3 and Matt “Zaddy” Zadkovich. Dance the night away with DJ Misty Rock n’Roll.
The main show will feature a thrilling ensemble dance performance with some of the best dance companies in the city including; Fiesta Filipina Dance Company, Barvinok Ukranian Dance School, Marie Ann Longlade School of Dance, Crossbane School of Irish Dance, Kaleidoscope Chinese Performing Arts Society, I Rock with the One, and Sampradaya Dance Creations.
MAC is delighted to be presenting the “Lifetime Achievement in Arts Award” to the Honorable Madame Hazel McCallion who has contributed tremendously towards Arts and Culture during her tenure as mayor.

This year’s MARTYS also feature the Arts in Community Conference featuring speakers from across Ontario covering topics such as community art, and why public art is good to enhance our neighbourhoods.
At the conference we will also present opportunity for community artists to compete for additional mentorship for their projects with the “The MAC Open Pitch”. Shortlisted community artists will have 5 minutes to convince a panel of judges to support their project and the winners will be announced at the MARTYS Red Carpet!

Big Things 2015!
Happy New Year!! We're only a few weeks in and life is already awesome and exciting and busy. There's lots to look forward to, and lots to share with you.
DJ Skate Nights are back at Harbourfront Centre and I'll be behind the decks this year reppin' Motown Party with Good Kids. It's free, family friendly and sure to be a lot of fun. I'll be there sipping hot chocolate and dj'ing Motown and soul hits along with DJ's Steve Rock & Caff on Saturday, January 24th. Can't wait!
Where else can you find me in 2015? I'm still a housing worker in a women's shelter by day, and forever brainstorming brilliant ways to combine my love of music with my passion for social and community work. More on that in a little bit! Truthfully, I won't be taking on as many DJ gigs this year but I'll still be found DJ'ing new rock, alternative, retro and guilty pleasures once a month at Velvet Underground for Born To Party and I'll be posting updates on facebook about when you'll be able to find me at Bovine Sex Club, Junction City Music Hall or parties like Shake Rattle & Roll @ Clinton's and Motown Party @ 751.
The first party up on Saturday, January 31 is a rockabilly show at Junction City Music Hall with bands Christian D and the Hangovers, and Buzz Deluxe. I'll be making you bop in between and after with sets of rebellious rock n' roll.
You can also come and see me a couple times a week VIDEO DJ'ing! I'm the newest addition to the DJ team at Toronto's two premium dive bars, El Furniture Warehouse in the Annex and Queen St. Warehouse on Queen W.
El Furniture and it's sister spot Queen St. Warehouse have been a non-stop party ever since they opened their doors in Toronto in 2014, and they are just going to keep blowing up. I'll be there VIDEO dj'ing every week, and I'll be posting updates of when I'll be there on my facebook page.

What else is good? Well back to attempting to blend social/community work in with music: I decided to make an important purchase... I bought the domain, www.goodvibesradio.ca and am going to try branching out into online radio and a positive thinking/recovery blog! Ever since I DJ'ed 'The Demon's Lair' on CKLN 88.1FM here in Toronto, I've been itching to get back on the airwaves. Or in lieu of actual airwaves, I'll be happy to make some noise on your computers, tablets and phones. I want to use music and discussion to try and promote having a PMA (positive mental attitude). This project is in its verrrrrrrry early stages and will come along with a blog later this year. I'll keep you posted, but for now I feel so lucky that 2014 was everything that it was and that I received the love and support that I did. I want to keep that going into 2015 and hope you'll all come with me. X

MOJO WORKOUT - All-Star Edition!
True Fact: Nights like these are the reason I wanted to become a DJ.
I would go to people's vinyl DJ nights when I was in my late teens and early twenties and watch in awe as the cool kids compared killer record and 45 collections while simultaneously setting the dance floor on fire with their perfectly timed selections. I wanted to be part of that cool club so bad....
And now here I am. I don't think I'm any cooler than I ever was but there aren't very many parties in this city anywhere near as cool as DJ Chico's, MOJO WORKOUT. Friday night, I'll be bringing my own killer selection of 45's and joining 6 of my favourite DJ's and record collectors to nerd out behind the decks and make a room full of the best people dance the night away. So make sure your plans include popping by The Yukon on Queen St. W. because everytime I've ever been there the night has turned into a house party where everyone at the bar becomes friends.
