I Miss Joey Ramone

It's hard to believe that ten years have gone so quickly, but it has been a decade since Punk Rock legend Joey Ramone passed away. I remember taking the news of his death back when I was 17 pretty hard. Maybe if I'd been a little older, Kurt Cobain's death would have been the first to induce tears but it was Joey Ramone's passing that was my first rockstar death to be followed by immense heartache. The day he died, I dressed my baby brother (then 4) and I alike in matching Ramones tee's, and we wailed around the house with cries of, "HEY HO! LET'S GO!" much to our mother's chagrin. 
I don't have to wax on about the legacy that is Mr. Ramone and the band he sang for, but as one of the first punk rock bands I ever remember hearing and singing along to I can speak on the fact that The Ramones have left an everlasting imprint on my ears, heart and rock & roll music as I know it. Tonight at Velvet Underground (510 Queen St. W.) I'll be including some Ramones to pay tribute to one of the best front men/vocalists alongside the rest of the best 80's, 90's, new rock & alternative that you can dance to. 
Here's hoping you'll join me tonight at the club so we can ALL shout along to Blitzkrieg Bop and remember the one and only, Joey Ramone.

Happy Birthday, Tina: the musical!

Come celebrate my partner in crime, Tina Sixx's Birthday and witness Fresh Meat's reunion show with me on guitar! We're on first at 9pm followed by loads of awesome bands and good times. Wish Tina and Allison both Happy Birthdays, get sloppy and see me on a stage instead of behind the DJ booth. It's my first night "off" in awhile so I think it goes without saying I'm going to be making the most of it. I can't wait!

Info: Saturday April 9, @Hard Luck Bar (812 Dundas St. W.). Doors are at 8pm, I'm on w/ Fresh Meat at 9pm and there are cupcakes & party hats. Hats!

Hobo With A Shotgun >> Must See!

"When life gives you razorblades, you make a baseball bat covered in razorblades" is just one of the many lessons to be learned in the epic new movie, Hobo With A Shotgun. I for one am a fan of the lessons you can only learn from a film that uses plenty of gore and style to tell it's grisly story about a hobo who decides to clean up a wildly corrupt town with nothing other than, well, a shotgun. I have no doubts that this is going to achieve major cult status and beyond which is especially rad coming from a few guys from Nova Scotia. I had a blast watching this film (cue cheesy "Hobo With A ShotFUN" comment) and think this is what you need to do this weekend. See this movie.

BLACK & BLUES

I can barely contain my excitement, my ALL TIME favourite bar manager has JUST OPENED UP HER OWN BAR. My homegirl Jasmine used to manage the one and only QUEENSHEAD Pub, as well as 751 and without her, who knows if I'd be dj'ing! She helped me get my start by trusting me to know good tunes, and let me DJ The Queenshead without ever even hearing me spin. So because all good things must come full circle, it only makes sense that I would be lucky enough to bring some killer tunes to her new bar.

CRAWFORD is located at 718 College St. just west of Ossington and right by The Mod Club. You'll also recognize some of your old 751 staff favourites like Ian Bobby & Jenna who have signed on as co-owners and shit, the only thing more exciting than that is coming to dance to killer 90's R&B downstairs w/ DJ HJ and motown & 1950's dance party favourites with me upstairs this coming Tuesday. OPENING PARTY! Don't miss it!!
